One company is testing the dream as you read this. As of June this year, the world’s first full-scale floating wind turbine is live.
Anchored 6 miles off the coast of Norway, the windmill—named Hywind—is beginning a two-year test.
The huge props are attached to a steel cylinder that extends 100 meters beneath the sea’s surface. The cylinder is flooded with water and ballasted with rocks.
